Overcoming Giants

You must understand that Israel's journey from Egypt into the Promised Land is a picture for Christians to study and follow.  Not only does this represent our freedom from sin and our entry into righteousness and peace with God, but it also represents passing from a place where sin dominated every area of our life, to a place where God's favor and promises can be our reality.

Here are two quick verses:
"The thief comes not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."  (John 10:10, Jesus speaking)

"Truly I say unto you, 'There is no man that has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life."  (Mark 10:29-30, Jesus speaking)

Jesus has come so that you can have the abundant life of God NOW.  Jesus wants you to leave behind everything that will hold you back from His perfect will for your life, so that He can give you all the blessings that this life has to offer, NOW, in this life.

We all have lived in Egypt.  We were all born there.  We were all born into sin and we were all robbed of different things by the devil.  I lost years of my life to bad decisions.  I lost relationships and opportunities and all sorts of other things because he deceived me and stole them from me.  You may not even realize it, but we have all suffered loss because of sin in our lives and in the world.  BUT God does not want that for us.  God wants to move us into the land of promise where the land is flowing with milk and honey, where there is all the provision and safety we will ever need, where we can have houses, and families and lands now in this time, with every other good and perfect gift that comes from above.

But just like the Israelites, we have to take it, and there are giants that don't want to give it up.  Remember that Moses sent twelve spies into the Promised Land first.  Hear what they said, "But the men that went up with him said, 'Surely it flows with milk and honey . . . [but] we are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we' . . . And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, 'The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.  And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."  (Numbers 13:31-33)

You probably know what happened to those people, none of them except the two who had faith in God (Joshua and Caleb) lived to see the land.

Brothers and sisters, there is a land of promise in front of us today, and the question is whether we are going to go up and take it.  God promises us peace and harmony in our home (Isaiah 54:13).  God promises us that we will ride on the high places of the earth (Isaiah 58:14).  God promises wealth and riches in our house (Psalms 112:3).  God promises us divine health (Exodus 15:26).  If you don't want to believe it then don't believe it.  Over here at my house we believe the Word of God.

But there are giants.  There are financial system giants which say go in debt and that you can't do big things because of your small bank account.  The price tag of God's will makes your bank account look like a grasshopper.  There are cultural giants that scream sin and stupid pursuits to your children, which make you feel like a grasshopper in strength to fight against it.  There are a million diseases and unhealthy things out there that can fight against your body and make you feel powerless to live in Godly health.  There are giants everywhere, and there is a different giant that will fight you in every area of God's will for your life.

But, as Caleb said to the people when talking about God's Promised Land, "Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it."  (Numbers 13:30)

I don't care what giants you are facing, you are more than a conqueror.  I don't care how high the walls are around God's will for your life, those walls will come crashing down for you.  Every one of those giants will bow the knee before Christ and fall before you.

Listen to what God is saying,
"Hear My people, you are to pass over this day into the Promised Land, to go in and to possess nations greater and mightier than you, cities great and fenced up to heaven.  A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims (Giants) . . . Understand therefore this day, that the Lord your God is He which goes over before you; as a consuming fire He shall destroy them, and He shall bring them down before your face: so shall you drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord said unto you."  (Deuteronomy 9:3)

You must recognize the will of God for your life.  You must spend time in His Word to learn about His will which applies to all of us: health, financial peace, a peaceful home, etc.  You must get in tune with His Spirit so you can learn about His specific will for you: that house, that spouse, that job, etc.  Then you must go forward in the power of God to obtain your promises.  And the giants will fight you.  The principalities and powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, the spiritual wickedness in high places, they will all fight against you.  But you are well able to overcome them.

"And they overcame (satan/the giants) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."  (Revelation 12:11).  You are under God's grace and favor because of your relationship with Jesus Christ.  You boldly speak and pray your faith, and you are willing to do anything God tells you in furtherance of His will.

"Be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."  (Hebrews 6:12).  Don't miss the word "inherit".  These promises are your inheritance as God's children.  They belong to you now.  (All the promises of God are yes and amen to those in Christ - 2 Corinthians 1:20)  We must use our faith.  We must then be patient, meaning that we remain faithful and confident no matter how strong or loud the giants get.

"Only rebel not against the Lord, and don't fear the giants; for they are bread for us; their defense is departed from them, and the Lord is with us, fear them not.  (Numbers 14:9)

Whatever giants you are facing, whatever stands in your way, let us go up at once, this is our time to take the land.  If God be for us then nothing can stand against us.
