God's Frequency

Why do so many people fail to hear from God clearly and consistently?  The answer is that they are not tuned into His frequency and listening according to His communication methods.

God does not regularly speak according to our human communication methods.  Maybe once in a lifetime will you hear God’s audible voice.  God is probably not going to speak to you through animals and you probably won’t see an angel in your bedroom.  While it’s possible God could divinely cause a Facebook ad or television commercial to hit your screen, those are not Biblical communication methods and should be considered unreliable, at best.   Even hearing God through other people has become drastically overemphasized in the lives of most Christians.

Rather, God uses the frequency of the Spirit and Biblical communication methods.  Trust me, understanding this is the master key to hearing from God clearly and consistently.  You are just not used to thinking this way.  Give me a few minutes and I will tell you how to get started.

This next part might sound a little crazy but it’s actually really important and good news.  You must understand that God is a spirit (John 4:24).   Furthermore, you are a spirit (you are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body, 1 Thessalonians 5:23).  Remember, you are made in the very image and likeness of God.  God is a spirit and you are a spirit.  God wants to communicate with you Spirit to spirit, on the frequency of the spirit realm, and using Biblical/spiritual communication methods.  Again, not natural, human communication methods, and this is the key.

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you (I mean your spirit) immediately becomes the perfect child of God (John 3, 2 Corinthians 5:21).  Furthermore, God’s own Spirit comes to dwell inside your physical body and bonds with your spirit (Ephesians 1:13, 1 Corinthians 6:17).  Now you have perfect and direct access to the Spirit of God.

The Spirit of God knows everything and wants to tell you everything you could ever want to know.  Please read 1 Corinthians chapter 2.  It makes it crystal clear.  God’s Spirit knows everything, and one of the major reasons God gives us His Spirit is so that we would know everything God wants us to have and everything God wants us to do.

Can you imagine knowing everything God wants you to have and everything God wants you to do?  That is exactly how God wants us to live, receiving constant direction and revelation from God’s Spirit.  That’s how it is supposed to work, and then you should go through life living in all God has for you.  But most of us seem to fall short of that.  It’s because the natural man doesn’t receive from the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Let me say that again and hope it sinks in.  The natural man doesn’t receive from the Spirit of God.  God has designed a communication system but it does not involve your natural communication methods.  It doesn’t involve your eyes or your ears.  You certainly aren’t going to just think up God’s will for your life.  (See 1 Corinthians 2:9)  God wants to speak to you, but He wants His Spirit to speak to your Spirit.

God’s primary communication methods are the voice of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 30:21, Acts 8:29, Acts 10:19), the inward witness of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:16, Colossians 3:15), and dreams and visions from the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:17).  Yes there are other ways.  The first is that God will speak to you through the Bible.  That is the witness of the Holy Spirit working with the written Word of God, when something just jumps off the page to you as direction for your life.  You may receive a prophetic word or word of wisdom from a spiritual person.  But one way or another, these all involve the operation of the Holy Spirit, and you won’t hear God consistently through His Word either without the work of His Spirit.

You need to become a spiritual person and remain tuned into God’s Spirit if you are going to consistently hear from God (1 Corinthians 2:15).  How do you do that?  How do you develop your spirit and become more spiritual?  Listen to my podcast or read my blog post to really get a lot of information on the subject.  But for now, just start praying and reading the Bible every day.  I know it sounds like an oversimplification, but those are the keys.  Begin doing both of those every day, and that will set you on the right path to increased spirituality and spiritual maturity.  Those activities will shift your mind from natural thinking to spiritual thinking.  Prayer and Bible reading will tune you in to God’s frequency.

It is not true that if God wants to speak to you He will make sure you get the message.  I know some people think that, but that is not a Biblical position.  Look, there are many thousands of advertisers who would love for you to receive their messages, but they only put them on certain channels and communicate them certain ways.  Here is my point.  God has designed, in His infinite wisdom, a communication system.  For many reasons, most of which I don’t understand, it is the best possible system for God to communicate with His people.  While He can use natural communication methods, those are not His best and He’s not going to do that regularly.  This is why so many people struggle to hear from God clearly and consistently.

However, God wants you to hear Him more than you do.  God wants to guide you and provide for you in every area of your life, and a major way He will do that is by communicating His will to you.   Tune in to the frequency of the Holy Spirit and pay attention to God’s communication methods, and you will begin hearing Him clearly and consistently.
